NATURE

Harmony of Greenery and Water

Shounan Shore

Sagami Bay and the Shonan Beach area surrounding Enoshima Island are noted for their beautiful scenery rivaling those of Naples, the Cote d’ Azur and Miami. The breath taking beauty of Enoshima in the foreground together with the graceful figure of Mount Fuji in the far distance behind Sagami Bay has long been a recurring theme in countless UKIYOE, which are woodblock prints of the Edo period.

Oba Castle Park

Shinbayashi Park

Currently, Fujisawa has 298 parks with an area of 222.41 hectare. The city also has 1,366 trees and 121.5 hectare of woodland, which are protected. Shinbayashi Park lies at an elevation of 60 meters located in the hills along the east bank of the Sakai River and has a particularly lush forest growth of cedar and laurel trees, and furthermore the Kawana Pond in the center of the park is a haven for wild birds. It is hard to believe such a beautiful setting can be so near the heart of the city.
